# Custom analysis

> When the question doesn't fit a pre-built Ocular report — use Chart Builder and custom Dashboards to slice your data on any dimension or metric.

## I have a question no pre-built report covers

**Trigger:** A one-off investigation, board request, or cross-functional question that doesn't fit an existing module.

**Start with:** **Explore → Chart Builder.**

Find the right model:

| My question is about… | Model |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Orders, revenue, products, returns, discounts, customers | Sales |
| Sessions, conversion funnel, traffic sources, device behaviour | Customer Activity |
| Shipment tracking, courier performance, delivery timing, logistics cost | Fulfilment |
| Meta spend, ROAS, demographics, placements, creative formats | Meta Ads + relevant breakdown model |
| Google spend, ROAS, search terms, device, geo | Google Ads + relevant breakdown model |

**Configuration**

1. Select your model
2. Drag a **Measure** to the Y-axis
3. Drag a **Dimension** to the X-axis
4. Optionally add a second dimension as a **Breakdown** (stacked bars / multiple lines)
5. Apply **Filters** for scope — date range, channel, product, city
6. Choose a chart: Line (trends), Bar (comparisons), Pivot/Table (multi-dim), Single Value (KPI)
7. Save and add to a Dashboard for recurring use

## I want to build a recurring dashboard for my team

**Trigger:** Same questions every week, same ad-hoc analyses — automate the view so your team can self-serve.

**Start with:** **Dashboards.** Build individual charts in Chart Builder, save them, then create a new Dashboard and add them. Position and resize to suit.

**Design guidance**

* **8–12 charts per dashboard** for performance
* Group thematically — revenue charts together, marketing charts together
* **Single Value KPI cards at the top**, detailed charts below
* Set a consistent default date range across all charts so the dashboard loads coherently
